The Atlas Pizza story begins in 1975. It was started by Mike Theodossopoulos, who started a local pizza joint that is now one of the longest-running restaurants in Calgary. Chris, his son, came on board in 1995 and has been the main player in this institution ever since.
"I love the job and atmosphere that comes with it. The people are great and the environment is welcoming and fun,” Chris says. “I started at the bottom and worked my way up: washing dishes first. Then I would cook in the mornings, go to university in the afternoon, and then come back to cook at night. On the weekends I would learn bartending and serving. From there I just continued working, even after studying history in university."
Our team has been voted as one of the best in Calgary, specifically for our pizza. We have won numerous awards for the best pizza in Calgary over the years. Our pizza is made from scratch every time - our sauces, handmade dough, and every ingredient that goes into creating our famous pie. We have expanded our menu and it will never disappoint: ribs, top-notch steak, and even pasta. Our location can seat up to 300 people, so we can accommodate most groups. Apart from reinventing how we do food, in 2013 we also made our facility cozier and more modern. As Chris says: "We gutted the place and redid the whole thing. This new experience is now one of a true sports pub."
Apart from the great pub feel and our amazing food, we also love supporting our community. From hosting charitable events to participating in Calgary's wide food initiatives, Atlas cares about the community we are in. Eric Francis Pizza Pigout, YYC Pizza Week, and supporting charities like Meals On Wheels, KidSport Calgary, The Big Give and You Can Play Project are just a few of them.
"We try to give a helping hand by donating food and gift certificates to local events and community centers," says Chris. "Catering for fundraisers such as the Epilepsy Association of Calgary and their Bare Naked Noggins Head Shave event is one way we try to pitch in for our community."
"We are proud Calgarians and always will be!"
